I've converted a few albums from flac to ogg just to see. I did notice a bit of a volume drop but it might have something to do with my settings. Otherwise - sounded ok.
As for quality loss and what you might be missing - this is always an interesting question and probably good that this is not in the Audiophile forum. My view is - if it sounds good to you - what's the problem. Who really knows that what you can hear through your ears is the same as what I or others can hear.
