Please be sure to check out the aoTuV branch of the Vorbis encoder. It's generally extremely-well regarded. The main Xiph "trunk" of the Vorbis decoder is quite old.
At HydrogenAudio, most users find that aoTuV becomes indistinguishable from lossless at Q4 (!), and a handful think it reaches that point around Q5. My own ABX tests show it's transparent just above Q4 for my music, to my ears, on my system. YMMV. My A/B tests show that I can tell the difference between FLAC and WAV, so that should tell you what A/B testing is worth! I personally encode at Q5 and Q6 just to be safe. -- CatBus ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CatBus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36212 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
