A SliMP3 is three generations of hardware behind current. 2003 might not
be that long ago, but is ages in technology terms. Don't worry though,
it is still a useful device and i doubt support for it will be going
anywhere as far as SlimServer is concerned.

Because the SliMP3 only supports MP3 your server is having to transcode
the AAC tracks into MP3 before sending this out to the player. If the
server is slow this can bog things down. Same is often true for
interenet radio when it isn't streamed as MP3 in the first place.

Having said this, there might be a problem with the transcoding
parameters in SlimServer. It might be trying to use a very high quality
value for the MP3 encoding and so being less than real time.

What version of SS are you running?
What Mac are you running it on?
