I have been playing with Slimserver, Mp3tag and Softsqueeze prior to
ordering af Transporter (just did so today).

I am in doubt as to how to tag “artist”, when I have a cd with various
composers (e.g. Bach and Chopin) performed by one artist (e.g. Martha
Argerich) from the same cd (e.g. M.A. live at Concertgebouw),
especially if it is a recital.

I originally tagged Bach and Chopin as composers (which I treat like
artists in Slimserver) for their separate tracks. As artist I put
“Anthology” (that’s where I keep the disc physically on my shelf). But
then if I selected Chopin as artist, I could (of course) only be able
to choose between the two tracks by Chopin on the album, not those by
other composers on the album. This makes sense, but the thing is: Once
I have listened to the Chopin tracks, I might just like to hear other
tracks from the same recital. Is there any other way to do this than
going back “up” the menu and choosing either to select the album as
such or a different artist (Martha Argerich or Bach)? In other words:
Can one switch from “artist mode” to “album mode” with out going
backwards?

I have now instead tagged all the composers on the album as both
composers for their separate tracks and as artists of all the tracks.
This works fine on Softsqueze. However it does look stupid in
Slimserver, when I pick an album and it says “Bach: Partita … by Bach,
Chopin, Bartok, Prokofiev …”!

Could I avoid this somehow? (turning the “by-line” of in Slimserver
would work fine for me, but I can’t see how to do this)

Or am I just not tagging correctly?

Thanks
Soeren
