I am using an external hard drive with a USB2 connection. USB2 seems to work fine for me.
I currently have a 750Gb hard drive in a USB enclosure for storing my music collection (mixture of FLAC & MP3 files), PLUS a couple more 750Gb hard drives which I use for backup. I can not face the prospect of re-ripping all my albums again, so thought the cost of buying 2 extra hard drives was worth the money.
