Do you really see the album listed 5 times when browsing by album? I use the same format for the display but I only ever see one entry for an album even if individual tracks are from different years. I agree that an album year tag would be helpful (there is none at the moment). This way you could tag tracks with the original release year and have the album release year in the corresponding tag.
