Yes, Classical requires an quite different set of tags which would
populate a different database structure than the artist/album/title
hierarchy of popular music.  Even if there was a tagging and database
structure in place tomorrow, it would be a while before it was
propagated to the majority of hardware and software in the field, so
IMHO you're correct, we'd need a template to populate the "standard"
tags from the classical tags so that older equipment could operate in
"limp home" mode.  In fact, some of the "Classical" tags might also be
useful for popular music, say "COMPOSER" or "PERFORMER" (to list "side"
performers on a track).

It's a problem which needs to be solved eventually, and maybe and
open-source project like Squeeze Center is the best place to do it.
