I have some problems too with EAC being slow when ripping to FLAC. With
numerous discs, it will read the first track at a speed of anywhere from
8X to 12X, but as soon as it finishes that track and starts on the
second, it drops down to a range of 0.9X to 1.7X for the rest of the
disc. That is in the DVD drive that EAC in its setup procedure
recommended I use. If I use my CD drive instead, the same disc will
rip at the higher speed in its entirety. (Both drives say there are no
errors.)

I've wondered whether this has something to do with the encoding that
starts after the first track is done, but if it is that, shouldn't it
be happening in the CD drive as well? Or is it that my DVD drive is
not aligned properly? But then I would think that the first track would
rip slowly too. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks.
