I rip to WAV and encode to FLAC later. I've got a Sony DDU1615 drive on Ubuntu linux running EAC secure mode using the wine emulator. With this setup I seem to get 10X - 30X speed on each track, with an overall speed of about 20X. This is the fastest and most reliable drive I've used thus far, much faster than the Plextor PX-230A I was using previously.
