Ah, right. Sorry - I forgot about those settings. I think you should
set this to option #5, set the retries to something sensible (like 10),
and also check the "allow speed down".

Incidentally, there are later version of Plextools Pro that may have
some useful extra features. If you like, I could send you the install
file for version 2.24. (PM me if interested).

Checking that option effectively gives you "secure mode". It means that
the drive will report back to Plextools if there's an uncorrectable
error, and Plextools will then do things like re-read, reduce the drive
speed, etc, in a attempt to get a good read. If it eventually fails,
it'll tell you.

The tags in a FLAC file are stored at the start of the file. It is
common practice to leave some spare space (about 4kB is typical). THis
means that if you add some extra info into the tags, only that 4kB
header needs to be rewritten. Plextools does NOT add this extra space
in FLAC tags. So if you ever edit the tags and make them longer,
there's no space at the start of the file to put the new data, so the
entire (multi-MB) file has to be rewritten, which takes much longer.
