For several years, people have been making their own conversions of old quadraphonic records and tapes and producing DTS audio CDs with the 4.0 music, though I think they're still technically encoded as 5.1.

The fact that you weren't aware of that kinda tells you right off that they didn't exactly fly off the shelves into every home. :) Quite a few of the titles that were issued were 1970s quadraphonic mixes with derived center and LFE tracks, but there were also some modern remixes of more current albums. I don't think anyone is still producing the discs commercially, but the software is cheap enough that people are still churning out their own conversions of old quad material, though many have moved on to DVD-A. Apparently whatever went wrong with my drive resulted in sending the same bits to the extraction software multiple times, so the software thought it had an error-free read. Also, even titles that might be in there would not verify because it's very rare that someone burns with the proper write offsets. I did have some more common discs that verified with AccurateRip and others that that claimed to be in AccurateRip, didn't verify, but claimed to be "secure". I attributed that to different pressings of the same title, but now it seems more likely that I just have junk. -- atrocity ------------------------------------------------------------------------ atrocity's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16009 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55750 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
