I think its often really a problem of kinda "sloppy production". In an
ideal environment, all discs in a set -should- be expected to level
out.

Then again, we don’t have an ideal world. Floyd’s »Ummagumma« was
actually a good example: Mine shows an album RG of -2.60 on the »Live«
disc 1, and -3.58 on the »Studio« disc 2. (Values may not be that
accurate, since I still only have that album as MP3, not as FLAC.)

For me, the »live« and »studio« parts thus would somehow be kinda
»separate« albums, and RG'ed accordingly. So I set SC to -not-
aggregate multi-disc albums and -believe- I get more out of album gain.
Maybe also because I wouldn’t »jump« between listening to the »live« and
»studio« discs.

Maybe its really a little personal preference, what one considers to be
»an album«. (And what the producers did to the material.) I should
probably also go and rip my »Jubilee Edition« (hee hee) and see how
good that production was ;-)
