I'm going to try and answer most of the questions all at once. The majority of my music was ripped using EAC to flac. I have only recently started buying from iTunes and only the DRM free mp4a files aaannnndddd only stuff that I don't feel would sound any better anyway. Also, I only buy mp4a for older stuff (30-40+ years) where I don't want the entire album.
My system is Classe Model 5 preamp and a Classe 250 Power amp. I don't own a turntable. I don't have many albums I **need** to record, but it it worked well I would do that rather than re-buy some of them on CD. Honestly, anything I care about is already on CD....almost. Time spent isn't an issue at all. For the albums I do have that I don't have on CD I would be satisfied with similar quality to an iTunes mp4a file. Most of these are albums by freinds or old rock stuff that wasn't recorded that well to begin with. Audiophile quality not needed.
