Well I didn't mean -literally- bin them, just dispose of them (sell them, give them away - whatever). I use a brilliant (but not free) piece of software called Spin-it-again. It is set up just for LP ripping. It records a single WAV file for the whole LP. It then loads this into a simple editor and uses online tag databases to suggest track breaks based on the length of the CD track. There is a simple utility that lets you then make fine adjustments to the start and end of each track. A 15 - 20 minute job. When that is done, it runs a process that creates separate WAV files for each track and names them with the tag information. I then use dBpoweramp converter to crate FLAC files from the WAV files, and a program called Tag and Rename to create the tags from the file names. This last bit is also about 15-20 minutes. So overall I find the encoding and tagging adds about 30 - 40 minutes to the length of the LP. I don't do any clever trickery with levels, I record the whole album at the same level, and I don't use any of the noise reduction filters the program offers as, to my ears, they remove too much musical information. The end result is pretty decent sounding, although I find it usually lacks some of the dynamics of the original LP.
