It works very well for any music for ewhich a composer and a performer are important. (For example, classical music, broadway shows and standards.) important. I found it to be much easier to configure for such music than Foobar.
Here is a view I use for browsing different genres of music. http://naturelover.smugmug.com/gallery/8915115_aSrUm#591669097_CuBXr You can use any tag or calculated field in the browser panes in the upper part of the window. It also has a secure ripper and great tag editing. > Requirements: > 1. quick searches, and sorting, in a rather large library (>100K songs) > of flac and mp3 files yes. > 2. search for strings in ARTIST, ALBUMARTIST (TPE2 in mp3 files) and > COMPOSER tags respectively, or those tags, or all tags, all at once It is trivial to do this with browser panes. You can also accomplish what you want by sorting on more than one field. (Note the numbers 1,2,34 on column heaqdings for the file list in the view schemes screenshots.) MJ/MC also provides a powerful search facility. You could define a view scheme or a smart playlist to do what you want. 3. sort the albums according to those tags and the YEAR and ALBUM tags Great multi-field sort capability. > 4. open in Windows Explorer the folder of an album I don't know about that. > 5. not alter in any way, without my knowledge and consent, alter the tags > or file names As far as I know, MC has never messed up any of my tags. I won't comment on all the abilities you would like. View the J. River forums. You can download MJ for free and try it or download a 30 trial of MC. I have MP3tag but have had no need for it for 2+ years.
