Thanks all for the replies. Aurumer: I have tried Foobar. Foobar seemed very configurable, but I found it to have a very high learning threshold (and I questioned the stability since I experienced a crash of the software). I could not find the advanced search capabilities I was looking for. Searching could for me be replaced by good sorting capabilities, but one requirement in that case is that I must be able to define a separator character (in my case "|") for multiple entries in one tag so that the album/files with ARTIST "X | Y" are displayed under both X and Y. Maybe this is possible through scripting, but it seemed to complicated and it was not readily obvious to me how to go about it. Perhaps I did not give the software enough time.
Do you perhaps know of an existing skin (or what they are called) with good preconfigured searching/sorting capabilities that I can try? Today, I only use Foobar for applying replay gain in certain situations. It is not perfect for that since I could not have the album gain calculated for all files in each folder when selecting multiple folders (only for all selected files or based on the album tags). Do you perhaps know of a way to do what I want in Foobar? (I know MP3Gain can do this, but that software only writes APE tags which I do not want.) Listener: I have not tried J. River Media Center. The screenshots looks promising. I will try the application out, thanks. Two quick questions that someone might be able to answer (regarding what really should have been stated as requirements): 1. If I have to rely on sorting through browser panes rather than searching in specific tags, it is essential that I Can define a separator character (in my case "|") for multiple entries in one tag so that the album/files with ARTIST "X | Y" are displayed under both X and Y. Is this possible? 2. Is the software able to read multiple tags in Vorbis comments in flac filess, i.e. several artists in multiple ARTIST tags, and to display in browser panes all artists? I could not find the answers in the FAQ or feature list on the J. River website. I also did not find an updated a comparison between the latest versions of the freeware JukeBox application and the MediaCenter application. Does anyone know where I can find such a comparison? (I only found this but it refers to rather old versions - v. 8 instead of the current 12 and v. 11 instead of the current 13: http://www.jrmediacenter.com/comparison.html) Can the freeware do tagging, for example? elstensoftware: I want the functionality for personal use only, and I would like a software that as far as possible behaves as I would like it to. -- vagskal _____________________________ 2 x SB3 (wired), Receiver (wireless), Boom (wireless), Controller, iPeng on iPod Touch, muso on remote computer Win XP | 7.3.4 on Win XP ------------------------------------------------------------------------ vagskal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20778 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65604 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
