I am looking for good music managing software for Win XP. The most
important thing for me, apart from an interface that I can live with and
a rather stable application, would be the ability to do quick searches,
and sorting, in a rather large library (>100K songs), consisting of only
flac and mp3 files, in many different ways. The software must have the
ability to search for strings in ARTIST, ALBUMARTIST (TPE2 in mp3 files)
and COMPOSER tags respectively, and those tags, or all tags, all at
once. It must also be able to sort the albums according to those tags
and the YEAR and ALBUM tags (the GENRE tag I do not really care about,
for now at least). Furthermore, the software must at least be able to
open in Windows Explorer the folder of an album so that I can edit the
files in MP3Tag. One absolute requirement is that the software must not
without my knowledge and consent in any way alter the tags, or file
names.

Requirements:
1. quick searches, and sorting, in a rather large library (>100K songs)
of flac and mp3 files
2. search for strings in ARTIST, ALBUMARTIST (TPE2 in mp3 files) and
COMPOSER tags respectively, or those tags, or all tags, all at once
3. sort the albums according to those tags and the YEAR and ALBUM tags
4. open in Windows Explorer the folder of an album
5. not alter in any way, without my knowledge and consent, alter the
tags or file names

A bonus would be if I, like in SC, could set a separator character of
choice to indicate multiple values in one tag.

Since I to date only use, and trust, MP3Tag for tagging operations it
is not absolutely necessary that the software has the ability to tag. It
would, however, be a real bonus if the software had the following
abilities:
a) For mp3 files: Delete all tags except ID3v2.3. Write only ID3v2.3
tags with charset ISO 8859-1. Read and write custom tags, such as
ORIGYEAR. (A requirement if I should use the software as a tagger.)
b) For flac files: Read and write multiple tags, i.e. several artists
in multiple ARTIST tags . Delete all tags except Vorbis comments. Write
only Vorbis comments. (A requirement if I should use the software as a
tagger.)
c) The ability to alter the several tags on several files at once. (A
requirement if I should use the software as a tagger.)
d) Making scripts for altering multiple tags at once, for instance
appending a string to the existing TRACK tag (“ [Bonus Track]”) or
replacing a string (“,”, “/” and “;”) for another string (“|”, my
separator character of choice) or copying the content of one tag (YEAR)
to another tag (ORIGYEAR).
e) Making scripts to alter the file names, based on the tags, including
the folder path, creating a new folder if necessary, and to move the
files according to the path derived from the tags.
f) Ability to apply track and album gain according to folder structure,
i.e. to have the album gain calculated for all files in each folder when
selecting multiple folders.
g) An easy way to have a jpg file moved to a designated (album) folder
and renamed to “folder.jpg”. An additional bonus would be to have the
software at the same including the jpg into all mp3 files (but not flac
files) in that folder.
h) An easy way of retrieving, in the standard or built in web browser,
the page for an album on AllMusic Guide, Wikipedia (en), MusicBrainz,
Amazon (.com) and/or discogs. Could the software use the information on
those web sites to tag the information in a manner that is used in
MP3Tag, that would be an additional bonus.

Do you know of such a beast that I am after? Any suggestions? What do
you use?

I am willing to pay for good software, so it does not have to be
freeware.

(For playback on the computer, and for pushing files to SC, I already
have software that I am reasonably satisfied with, MP3Toys/WinAmp and
muso respectively. I am instead looking primarily for a software to help
me retrieve files based on the relationship between tags - which artist
has performed songs with which fellow artist/group or by which composer,
for example - and to help me enhance the quality of tagging to display
those relationships. BTW: I do not do classical music, so the software
does not have to handle such music and conductors and the likes.)
