I've run into this only very occasionally (with a near 1000 CD collection). I end up trying different drive/OS/ripper combinations until something works and is at least satisfactory to my ear. I found rubyripper on a Linux box to work pretty well once when EAC failed on multiple machines. You might post what CD it is and someone may have more information on that particular CD.
