i also use genre and even sub genre folders, and i don't understand why someone wouldn't want to do so?
here is an example path i use: M:\audio\music\mp3home\rock\1-classic\track.mp3 (mp3home is the folder for rips i made myself, as opposed to stuff i downloaded) ignoring mp3home for the moment, i can't imagine NOT having genre folders. even if its only for keeping track of your own storage space, why pile everything into one giant root of \artist\album\ ? what is the benefit of that? i use "audio" for all things audio related, so i have a \audio\software\ dir for example. i use "music" as the de facto root for all music or similar files, (ie not strictly music, but generally so, so it would include comedy bits, outtakes, etc...) i then break it down as to source, like if i rippedit, or downloaded it, or got it from someone elses rip job, etc... i think other people could use that as well, but i don't see it as universal, its just something some people might wanr to do. then i do my genres, and if necessary break it into sub-genres. this is excellent for smarter apps than squeezecenter which are a lot more flexible in creating dynamic views of your library. with winamp smartviews, i basically have dynamic playlists based on genres based on folder location. and i can combine locations, so if there is a "genre busting" artist, i can edit the smartview[s] to include that artist, or even just a signle song! ...to include it in the applicable views. \artist\album\ is the bare minimum a user should do. i can't see any advantage to just sticking to that other than a desire to not be bothered to do more. -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 & sbc (my home) / sbrec (parent's home) - sbs 7.5.2b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - p4(ht) 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid1 - d-link dir-655 - 40k+ mp3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79986 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
