counterproductive? i don't think so. i've even read that it helps
scanners when building the DB, altho i don't know if thats true. but
regardless i rip lots of music, download lots, and get it other ways as
well. editing genre tags is not something i feel a big need to do, but
it IS something that could work for most people, if they are willing to
put the time in, and they would have to, since most rips have retarded
genre tags b/c people ignore it when ripping in.

i'm not ready to put that time in, at least not yet. and moreover,
genre tags have their own set of issues, as all apps don't handle them
the same way, (even prudent SBS users do it all different ways).

winamps smartviews feature, which allows for custom presentations of
your library, way beyond folder location btw, allows someone the
ability to create "genre views" that combine as many criteria/locations
as you want.

what that means is that someone really doesn't need to know much about
tagging, all they need to know is its important to place the rips in an
applicable folder. from there they can choose to refine the smartview
or not, but its a really quick and easy way to do it.

besides all that, i just found that one massive list is harder, not
easier, but Jim and you feel the opposite, and thats kool and the gang.
