no. i am not talking there about indicating comp status *to SBS.* what i am asking about is why SBS needs to know something is a comp? what i was saying there is that if a comp tag or VA detection logic in absence of an AA tag says something is a comp, it puts it in the "special" SBS category of "Various Artists" which is basically the same as if it had a AA tag of "Various Artists" with the only difference being SBS doesn't "know" its a comp, (but a human would). (i think a special single VA category is dopey to begin with, i have a lot of comps, but i don't want them ALL grouped in one spot) the user will know, b/c they have a brain, whats a comp and what isn't based on the AA tag (if they categorized using comp terms). my basic question, which i am asking b/c i realize i could be missing something, is *why does SBS need to know* what is a comp and what isn't? JJZolx;566704 Wrote: > Why would you want to make users jump through that hoop just to > recognize a compilation? i don't. i'm not arguing here for SBS to not use comp tags. it should, and does. i understand some users, like itunes users, will come to SBS with no AA tags, but with comp tags. SBS can and does read them, as i agree it should. JJZolx;566704 Wrote: > If you say that SbS should NOT automatically identify compilations, what > do you do with them? If you're sorting albums by artist, where would > you sort the typical multi-artist album in that list? the case i am talking about is when you already have AA tags on everything. as far as i can tell, there is then no need to add comp tags, b/c they don't do anything for you. who cares if SBS "knows" something is a comp or not? thats what i'm asking, b/c if it matters, i am missing the "why" as in "why does it matter?" I've always thought that the option is a little misworded, > but once you know what it does, it's essential for most users. correct me if i'm wrong, but again, if you have AA tags on everything it does that already, right? comp tags have nothing to do with it IF everything has an AA tag, right? thats what i'm asking about. i wish SBS would allow you, btw, to switch on the fly between a list of ALL "artists" or all albumartists. and i wish you could toggle art on or off at any point. this whole thing about "suppressing" stuff is part of the problem... we shouldn't need to suppress anything, but rather pick what criteria we browse by and in what order. garym;566712 Wrote: > this is certainly key for me.
