aha! sorry, I didn't get this as the question. Because SbS knows it is
a compilation, and I select the option to "group compilation albums
together" it keeps me from having lots of one-off artist listings when
browsing by ARTIST when lots of these compilation artists are ONLY
represented on compilations. And if a compilation artist also has
albums on their own, the compilation tracks will also show up under the
ARTIST listing, which is behavior that works well for me.

But based on the many long threads on the compilations issue that I
recall you heavily participated in, surely you must already know this,
so I fear there must be more in your question than face value.
