I found that using dbPoweramp's batch ripper on a Quad Core PC with around 4GB of RAM I was able to max out at around 3 concurrent rips. Ripping more than 3 at a time seemed to slow the whle process down. If I had to rip anything more than a handful of CDs again, I would definitely use batch ripper.
