Just to add another possibility. Have you looked into using a software
like MediaMonkey? I use it as my media manager on my computer because
when I need to use MP3 via a data-CD for my car, a personal media
player (IPod) or even an audio-cd, it will automatically level files
when transferred to the device or disc in question based on the tags on
your original FLAC files. I'm not sure it allows use of album gain tags
for this purpose (I don't use it enough), but it sounds like it may be
good enough for your purposes. I also use it to maintain a db of my
files outside of LMS (for ratings mostly) so that changes to ratings in
LMS are not lost the next time I need to rebuild the LMS database.

It gives a lot of nice functionality in that respect, and you never
need to actually store an MP3. Actually, the syncing for outside use
is the only reason I keep that program.
