/dev/mmcblk0 is the card (incl. partitions)
/dev/mmcblk0p1 is  the first partition (incl. file system)

So e.g. to image the first partition:
cat /dev/mmcblk0p1|gzip>part1.img.gz
Write image back:
gzip -cd part1.img.gz > /dev/mmcblk0p1
