I also have another archive of mp3, however there is no id3 data. All the metadata is in a mysql db, which generates RSS/Podcasts. Can rivendell import RSS? Otherwise, I could probably write a script to update the id3 tags. I assume it can import that. As for the appliance, I tried it in a VM. I will probably end up building a demo with that. Not a big CentOS fan, honestly, but at least it's Linux. Also, I'm fairly certain we'll want to buy some support, so that would be the required platform correct?
