What exactly do you mean when you say “the machine’s address”?  Which 
interface?  Dual/multiple homing is quite common in places (think AoIP setups). 
 There are times when you do not want to be listening on certain interfaces!  
There is also the matter that a mis-configured/failed resolver setup can 
generate timeouts of a minute or more.  Not good in a realtime broadcast 
environment!

For all of these reasons, the canonical “bind the Rivendell services here” IP 
address must be configured for each host.  Real Experience has shown that it 
makes for a much more robust setup.
