Tibi> Here are the community questions (Please don't repeat the FAQ's answers):

Tibi> 1,2. On SaveMySQL site, you write that MySQL is functional, scalable and
Tibi> credible, though, acording to Wikipedia[1], the very fundamental features:
Tibi> transactions and referential integrity are supported by the InnoDB engine,
Tibi> actively developed by Oracle in the past 4 years, while PostgreSQL fully
Tibi> supports those features on its own.

Tibi> 1. Then what else is to be saved but the MySQL brand?

MySQL, under GPL, can be used freely by everyone that doesn't
distribute MySQL. This means of course all inhouse use like Web,
internal applications etc. It's in these applications that InnoDB is
most important.

Closed source applications that uses MySQL or closed source extensions
to MySQL can be distributed with an MySQL version that doesn't include
InnoDB; Most such applications works fine with PBXT or MyISAM.

It's also much easier to create a replacement for InnoDB than for the
whole of MySQL.

Tibi> 2. Then wouldn't be Oracle a good owner of MySQL, if already owns and
Tibi> sucessfully runs free DB software projects like InnoDB and BerkeleyDB?

Those projects doesn't compete with Oracles main product, so they are
not relevant comparisons.

Note also that Oracle doesn't make any money on InnoDB. They mainly
bought it to put pressure on MySQL Ab and stop us from growing (in which
they did succeed; MySQL Ab lost a lot of customers because Oracle
bought InnoDB).

Tibi> 3. What do you personally win if this campaign successfully stops Oracle's
Tibi> aquisition of MySQL=3F Is it true you want to make also
proprietary fork(s)
Tibi> of MySQL and/or make possible mixing it with proprietary software (so=20
Tibi> called „Eembedded solutions[2]”) like before under MySQL AB?

I have only done Open Source/Free software for the last 15 years and
intend to continue to do so. When MySQL management within Sun tried
to add closed source modules to MySQL, it was I who lead the debate
against this and was part in getting the management to take back the
decision.

I have also publicly said many times, including in my latest blog,
that Monty Program Ab is only going to release Open Source code. We
are not going to add any proprietary software and don't have any plans
to do dual licensing.

I think I have a good track record to back this claim up.

Tibi> 4. You appear in the Advisory Board of CodePlex[3]. What are
your relations
Tibi> with Microsoft?

I was asked by a friend to be part of CodePlex to see what Microsoft
is up to with Open Source. I think it's a good idea to be on the
inside as this way I can:
- Ensure that Microsoft has honest intentions (if not, be very public
  about it)
- If Microsoft really wants to contribute to Open Source, ensure they
do it a way so that it really helps the Open Source community.

So far my only interaction with CodePlex is by being on their email
list (reading and giving suggestions) and been part of 2 phone calls.

Regards,
Monty
