I use a D-Link 704P, and lkewise have not had this problem. I purchased it at "Best Buy" for 39.95, I think.

For now, I'm doing #3 and #4. That being said, what do the rest of you
do? Does only the WRT54G do this? Did you just give up on using Linksys
products with Charter? Is Charter's behaviour in this manner specific to
my segment? Tell me your story, Charter users...

When I used Charter, I had a BEFSR41 has a router (link: http://www.linksys.com/Products/product.asp?prid=20&scid=29) and I didn't have a single problem.

Oddly enough, the WRT54G runs Linux. Adding a -B flag should be cake for
a linksys engineer.
