This was a pain initially for me because I hadn't screwed around with pppoe in the past before getting SBC DSL. When I had DSL installed in my old house, SBC was still on DHCP; new house and new install and now it is PPPoE. blech. :-P


After 15 minutes of screwing with the PPPoE client, I went looking looking for more docs and found 'pppoeconf' which automated the entire process. A quick 'apt-get install pppoeconf' (over a modem) and I was authenticated and up and running in under 2 minutes. Very nice :-)

5. run freebsd as a fw router (with no mouse, graphics card etc.) and don't
   care.

FreeBSD? Isn't this a Linux list? (smirks at Mark ;-)
