If I had to choose a linux for a server, I'd probably go with either SuSE (stable, supported) or Debian (potentially stable, flexible), and probably in that order. I wouldn't think of Linux first for this application, and I'd want a 2.6 kernel as well, but hey, life ain't perfect. For a professional workstation, I lean toward SuSE again, with the more popular Berkeley distro (v5.x) coming in second. For a desktop, I've had good experience with Fedora and SuSE in the past. SuSE is, again, stable, supported, and comes with a default KDE setup. And for a developer's workstation/desktop/hobby, I whole-heartedly recommend Gentoo, with FreeBSD 5.x coming in a very close second. > I'm asking because of a recent discussion I had with some folks at > TMCC.
