I'm pretty used to doing things from a command line, but I would like the convenience of "drag and drop". For that reason, I need a file manager with a dual pane setup (like Windows Explorer) and mouse support. That means it's probably going to be an X application. Something with a small footprint like a Tcl/Tk application would probably be the ticket. > Check Sourceforge and Freshmeat to see what sorts of file managers are > available for you. I'm mostly concerned with function. I doesn't have to be pretty. I tried Nautilus a long time ago. It seemed like sort of a beast and IIRC, it didn't really do the drag and drop thing. I'll look at it again. Last time I tried Midnight Commander, it wasn't an X app and and didn't have mouse support, but it did have a nice dual pane layout. Is there an X version of Midnight Commander now? > > I tried a package called xfm and it didn't really do it for me. > > You don't really say why.
