How did you make that work in Linux? We have a machine with Hot-Swap
SATA hard drives, and though the controller could care less when we
unplug it, the Kernel freaks out. I think the problem is in the libata
module.

As has been mentioned before, there are smaller places in town, but you
will be paying much more overall than if you buy online.

If you are talking about rackmount servers, I would definitely recommend
Supermicro. I can get a Supermicro 6013A-T (1U w/2 hotswap SATA bays),
2.4ghz Xeon, 1GB memory, and 2x160GB Seagate SATA drives for $1078 from
mwave.com. The motherboard has onboard intel ICH5 SATA RAID, but ICH5
raid kinda sucks, so I'd recommend shelling out another $140 for a 3ware
2-port controller (8006-2LP).

Hot-swap non-scsi raid.... you wouldn't believe how much pleasure I got
from my first time yanking a sata bay out of a running system.
