I think that we are talking about different portability. I want portability between different tools. I want some standard way of associating schema with my document that can be used by various applications. This day, if I will edit one document in three different editors (say XXE, oXygen a Emacs+nxml) I have to create three different associations that say exactly the same thing. As a lazy programmer I must say that there is something wrong if I must do one thing three times.
