That is one way to do it. Another way would be to add this into your Makefile: depend: <insert tab here>$(CC) -E -MM ($DEPEND_FILES) -I. > .depend then go up and copy your rom_files into another section called depend_files (make sure you keep the tabs in place, otherwise make will whine), make depend, open up your Makefile, then insert the .depend in that way. As far as I know, makedepend isn't something that's handed out on every server (least it isn't on redhat 7.1 and probably older versions as well), so you're probably better off going this way.
