Ia atitudine la CE sa blocheze monopolizarea MySQL de catre ORACLE! De ce?
Pentru ca ne este afectata libertatea de exprimare! Va depriva comunitatile locale, societatea civila, firmele de hosting, societatea academica si cetatenii de a folosi liber si fara costuri cel mai avansat sistem de gestionare a bazelor de date liber accesibil. Pentru ca ne va trimite inapoi in epoca de piatra sa incepem sa dezvoltam un sistem nou, sau sa cumparam pe bani grei soft de la ORACLE! Majoritatea siturilor web si jumatate din bazele de date din lume folosesc programul MySQL pentru gestiunea bazelor de date. MySQL se poate folosi liber, si codul este liber accesibil si modificabil, deci sursa( deschisa(. Competitorul principal al MySQL este ORACLE, un soft comercial foarte scump. Recent dezvoltarea MySQL a fost preluata de compania SUN, care este pe cale sa fie achizitionata de ORACLE. Deci in consecinta ORACLE va pune mana pe MySQL! Astfel se va elimina competitia de pe piata si ORACLE ne poate taxa pe toti. Comunitatea Europeana a luat in discutie o posibila blocare a achizitionarii SUN de catre ORACLE. ORACLE a cerut clientilor sai sa trimita scrisoare de sustinere a preluarii SUN (si implicit MySQL) catre CE. Si tu esti client MySQL, chiar daca nu stii acest lucru! Aproape tot ce citesti pe web este gestionat cu ajutorul MySQL! Trimite scrisoare de protest la CE pentru a contrabalansa presiunea marilor companii comerciale! Monty Widenius, creatorul MySQL te roaga sa iei atitudine urgent, in 36 de ore ar trebui montat un protest masiv, inainte ca subiectul sa fie luat in discutie de catre Comunitatea Europeana! Trebuie sa( bloca(m monopolizarea MySQL si compromiterea accesibilitatii gestionarii libere a informatiei! Este vorba si de compromiterea libertatii cuvantului - pentru ca acest cuvant azi inca liber pe Internet ne poate costa scump daca va trebui sa platim bir lui ORACLE! Trimite urgent scrisoare de protest la * [email protected] * si da informatia asta mai departe. Model mai jos, propunem varianta a, cu subiectul mesajului: Subject: BLOCK ORACLE to buy MySQL a) I don't trust that Oracle will take good care of MySQL because Oracle is in direct conflict of interest with MySQL development. MySQL should be divested to another company or foundation that have everything to gain by developing and promoting MySQL. One should also in the future be able to combine MySQL with closed source application (either by exceptions, a more permissive license or be able to dual license MySQL under favourable terms) b) I think that Oracle could be a good steward of MySQL, but I would need EC to have legally binding guarantees from Oracle that: - All of MySQL will continue to be fully Open Source/free software in the future (no closed source modules) - That development will be done in community friendly way. - The manual should be released under a permissive license (so that one can fork it, the same way one can fork the server) - That MySQL should be released under a more permissive license to ensure that forks can truly compete with Oracle if Oracle is not a good steward after all. Alternatively: - One should be able to always buy low priced commercial licenses for MySQL. There should also be mechanism so that if Oracle is not doing what is expected of it, forks should be able to compete with Oracle.
