ok, i use emacs and gdb ;-) but there are allso more modern ides out there, kdevelop(yak qt ;-) or anuta or so in gnome i believe.
Other tools we're just deploying to make citadel look a bit more modern (i think it is, else i wouldn't be doing this) is getting a descent autoconf/automaked build to have things a bit more like they are in every else project arround.
