Rick,
It would be very difficult to give a complete overview of RUP here. It
comes with the software as a set of html pages that are very nice to
navigate through. Give them a read for the details.
Simply, it is a guide to the best practices for a software project. I think
it works better in a larger department environment when each functional
area has a representative. I find it a large overhead for the one or two
man teams where everyone does everything. In this case it gives good
direction and prompts better practices.

I did hear something about it, but Im not sure where .... can you tell me a
little more about it ?
a unified modeling language is not complete without a good unified process
something like a step-by-step manual for system-modeling for standard
and/or
relatively small projects
