RUP is the methodolgy suggested by Rational. Their are tons of OO
methodologies available out there.
If you r not sure then RUP might be a good place to begin with. Rational
also provides a RUP product which helps all the team member to follow the
RUP more conveniently.
To start off with a project methodolgy is the first thing one should do. It
tells u what u should be doing at what stage in the prject. Having said
that, methodolgy should be used as guidelines, there is no point in being to
rigid about them.
e.g I always like to make a sequence diagram before the class diagram which
helps me come up with exact classes. I then go back and update the sequence
diagrams.
In a fresh project the whole team should deciede the sequence of various
steps that they would follow and that is nothing but having a methodolgy in
place.

I did hear something about it, but Im not sure where .... can you tell me a

a unified modeling language is not complete without a good unified process
something like a step-by-step manual for system-modeling for standard and/or
relatively small projects
