Rick,
I purchased, and read, the Unified Process textbook... its a big process. I
have not used it
on a program though.
Because there is a lot to the RUP, I can tell you that you'll have to tailor
the process (use only those portions that you need). I took a webinar
(online seminar) that was conducted by Doug Rosenberg of Iconix Software. I
recall his approach to be Use Case driven like RUP, but he stressed starting
with a *way* scaled down version of RUP... then tailor it by adding stuff.
I like that approach because at least you go in with a process that is
usable. If you start with the all-encompassing RUP, you have to work hard
at cutting out the fluff.
FWIW: I have heard on a number of occasions, from different sources, that
the RUP is really a marketing scheme that ties all the Rational tools
together.
Also, I have used a process called "Use Cases combined with Booch/OMT/UML"
by P. Texel, and C. Williams (ISBN 0-13-727405-x). Its a Use Case driven
approach... no complaints with this process, and its easy to comprehend.
Hope this helps...
-Tony

thnx Anthony, Mark & Maheswari
Though you all have good ideas, Im also more curious about RUP
I did hear something about it, but Im not sure where .... can you tell me a
little more about it ?
a unified modeling language is not complete without a good unified process
something like a step-by-step manual for system-modeling for standard and/or
relatively small projects
Im awaiting your response
Regards,
Rick
