You have tried our native printing since the new-notation-quantization branch was merged back in, haven't you? It's still not something you'd want to print out and read, but it's much better than it was, and with some more tweaking we could improve it further without having to drop in a whole new PostScript layer. Did you try Scribus? I've noticed it before, never installed it.
