There is only one way to empty a selection by using "Clear Selection".
It would be extremely useful to have a de-select operation to make it possible
to deselect _certain_ items in the current selection, for example, for removing
an object you selected by mistake from the current selection. At the moment,
if you make a mistake in a selection of many objects, the only way to get
a correct selection is to "Clear Selection" and start selecting the other
objects from the beginning. This wastes a lot of time. It would be much
better if there was a function like "Clear Item from Selection" which you
could use to remove an incorrect object from the current selection without
also deselecting the other wanted objects in the selection.
