Yes, it's Low Latency and Low latency Capabilities

LL adds ability to make kernel think an app is real-time
LLC adds ability to run this app as user

There are LL/LLC patched kernel for nearly all well-known distros like RH,
Debian, Mandrake, Gentoo, ALT Linux :-)

All you need is such a kernel and jack.

jackstart has all the same options jackd has, but you need to run it as
user, not as root.

BTW, there is a nice app called qjackctl which is a Qt front-end to
jackd/jackstart. Homepage: http://qjackctl.sourceforge.net
