It was Eckhard Jokisch, and it broke KDE 3.1 compatibility which some of us (I think Pedro?) needed at the time (never mind other users). A shame, because the deprecation warnings are incredibly irritating. Perhaps a patch to KDE to remove them... (arf). See what others have to say on that now, but I'm sure we can happily take the C++ fixes (I particularly like the one to rosegardencanvasview).
