Ah, right.  The other main issue for us is that we use various services 
as well as libraries, for example we can't run without DCOP and we use 
the KDE printing service, JACK audio server and ALSA sequencer etc.

Maybe.  But my time is also limited and I have to distribute it as well 
as I can.  Trying to untangle something that seemingly doesn't work at 
all, to the end of making something work that at that point seems to 
have been created simply to try my patience, is not a particularly 
appealing option.

Hell, I know people often don't report bugs in Rosegarden and I'm sure 
their reasons are similar.  It's frustrating, but it's life.  Maybe 
they lose the right to complain that the bugs are causing them 
problems, but they don't lose the right not to use Rosegarden at all.
