Hello Chris,

Yeah, I think it is better now.

I'm happy to have my hardware MIDI as the last choice. But I want it to be a
choice.

I think now that we do not create devices everywhere and try to connect every
port, the issue you experienced in 2008 has been simplified drastically.

I agree that showing "no port" might be clearer than showing "20:0 Stupid MIDI
device"

But, the device manager does is not plagued with the problems it had in 2008
and this is easy to spot and fix for the simple setups we are talking about.

As in my earlier post, I have old school soundcard midi ports, a midi to USB
converter and a USB MIDI Keyboard (with a tone generator). RG isn't
distinguishing them in any fashion.

I'll list the playback device:
16:0 Roland Fantom X
24:0 Midisport 2 x 2 MIDI 1
24:1 Midisport 2 x 2 MIDI 2
28:0 Ensoniq AudioPCI: ES1371

I spent today to force the Roland as the lowest Hardware device so RG would
pick it. AN I forced the Ensoniq as the highest since I have it doing MTC and
MMC back and forth with RG and I never want to to be a playback device.

Maybe this illustration can help frame this a bit better.

Well, I know we are detecting new clients...see prior post.

Doing a device manager refresh when we do find a new client might be worth
considering after thorn...then we could get rid of the refresh buttons.

Sincerely,
Julie S.
