I object as well. If people want to seperate notation to differnet staves, they can put the segments on different tracks. Mutiple tracks [pint to the same isntrument, so I see no problem leaving the current behavior as is.
There is even a glitchy, thumbwheel to help you navigate among the overlapping segments. What would be nice is to have the notes and rests of the currenty active segment take on the color of the segment. That would clearly identify which notes are being worked with. I think RG could do a lot better job of displaying overlayed segments, but that logic is very complicated and is better left to lilypond or some other layout engine. There are several cases where we want multiple segments on a single staff, polyphonic notation is the biggest issue (yes, may be clearer on two staves in some cases). Some folks are actaully using RG for notation and not midi or audio and may really want to have this capability left in place. I could certainly see having the ability to toggle your feature as a break-out-mode if able to on-the-fly as being useful. But we could probably do this more cheaply by toggling color instead: * Press the color toggle button * All notation takes on the color of the segment * Press the toggle again * All notation returns to black or as I mentioned earlier, we could just have the notes and rest in the active segment take on the color of the segment.
