And like I said earlier, most current mainstream distros (especially the multimedia ones like CCRMA and Ubuntu Studio) have kernels that support this without needing to recompile the kernel. Rosegarden 11.02 + Jack work out of the box on Ubuntu Studio 10.10, for instance.
