I have not yet had a chance to dig through this, but one thing I want to 
point out.

I think that one reason rsyslog has beome standard instead of syslog-ng is 
that the rsyslog config file is understandable to people used to 
traditional syslog. If you are doing the same thing you would do with 
traditional syslog it's pretty trivial, and doing simple filtering is 
simple.

syslog-ng has a more powerful config language than rsyslog at the moment, 
but to do anything with it requires learning a bunch of new stuff.

if the new config language completely replaces the old one I think it will 
be a problem, however if the new config language is optional (available 
for power users, but not required for simple things) then I think it could 
work.
