It is definitely not crashing anymore. Let me do some more testing on it and 
let you know if I find any issues.

Would this patch for work 7.4.4 as well?

mmhhh... you may want to try attached patch. It's against current master, but 
should apply cleanly. It's totally untested, but there is a90% chance it is the 
valid fix.
